MOST VIEWED VIDEO ADS: COVID-19 EDITION

This month’s MVVA is different from others. We’ve decided to showcase the work that brands and agencies have created around the subject of COVID-19. While the current climate poses challenges for brands, and marketers are trying to decide whether it’s a good idea to run ads at all, it is undeniable that there’s a requirement for adjusted messaging.

The most viewed ad on this month’s list belongs to Nike for its Play for the World campaign. The black and white, text-based ad features clips of athletes, such as LeBron James, exercising and playing at home. The ad celebrates everyone in their homes who are finding ways to stay active while social distancing.
The campaign follows Nike’s announcement that it will be spending over $17 million in COVID-19 response funds.
Not too far behind on the list is adidas’ new campaign #HomeTeam. The ad stars athletes such as Paul Pogba and Patrick Mahomes, YouTuber Ninja, and filmmaker Jonah Hill sharing how they’re staying productive in these uncertain times.

Portal from Facebook’s newest campaign is trying to take advantage of families quarantining by positioning itself as the go-to tool for people communicating while social distancing. The ad heavily features families video calling each other, saying that if you’re not actually in the same room, Portal will make you feel like you are. The soundtrack to the spot is Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure”.
The ad comes at a time where people are looking for different ways to stay connected and companies like Zoom are seeing an increase in usage.
