Help Moms Get the Attention They Deserve This Mother’s Day

May 07, 2019

Mother’s Day is no doubt a special event for families and advertisers alike as we communally show our appreciation for perhaps the most important person in many peoples’ lives. With the event just around the corner, brands everywhere have been capitalizing on the holiday in order to create a lasting connections with moms. Here is a recap of effective strategies by advertisers who stole our hearts last year to help inform your campaigns for the upcoming holiday:

A Mother’s Love

The top spots in general revolve around treating moms to a special “thank you” for the endless love and all of the hard work they do. Regardless of their background or status, moms everywhere have the same mission: to love their children unconditionally. And brands that conveyed that message certainly took the lead in connecting with audiences.

Teleflora was no doubt the #1 ad for Mother’s Day, coming in at almost double the amount of views than the second place spot. Eleven weeks into her pregnancy, Cara was told that there was a very good chance that the little girl she wanted so badly would have Downs Syndrome. While Cara knew she would love her daughter, she worried that she was not equipped to be the mom her baby needed.  Now, seven years later, Mia is the life of the party and the heart of the family. Check out the ad above (grab the tissues)!

Get Creative

Using humor and getting creative with messaging can pay off as well – as evidenced in the BarkBox ad that serves as an ode to “dog moms”. The hilarious rap (with ingenious lyrics) is an anthem for all of the women who love taking care of their little pups – and serves as a reminder that humor can also win the hearts of humans (and pups) alike!

Gifting Glamour

Being a widely celebrated holiday, gifting is a huge strategy for retail brands. Swarovski’s #BrillianceForAll campaign celebrates the unique bond between a mother and her child in a moving campaign starring brand ambassador Karlie Kloss. The model is joined by a cast of influential talents including Maye Musk, Chiara Ferragni, Maggie Jiang, Devon Aoki, Shannan Click and Oluchi Onweagba to pay tribute to the greatest style muse – mom. Beautiful and bright jewelry adorn the campaign’s stars, highlighting gifts designed to make every woman feel at her best and most brilliant while complementing her unique personality.
